Decor Inspo: Teen Pink Bedroom

Recently I was playing around with a mood-board for one of my nieces. They are moving into a new home next week and as a gift to their children each kid can decorate their own room. My eldest niece is 12 and wanted a boho inspired bedroom but “make it mature”. Her mother wants some of the furniture like the bed and nightstands to be more classic. A style that can grow with her and possible something she can go off to college with. Since it is a new build house they would like to not have too paint if possible. My niece is a girly girl but doesn’t want bright pinks and purples. She wants her room to have some color but more natural and most importantly to her is it has to be a place to can relax in and have friends over.

First thing I do when making a mood board is get the color palette and large furniture items on the page first. If she was bringing in furniture or decor this would be the time I would put it all together so I could get an idea of where Im starting. Their entire home is a warm off white and as for the bed frame I knew I wanted black wood or metal since those styles and color never go out of style. The bed is also a great piece to ground your room so a bold color like black is a great choice. First place I went looking is Amazon for her bed frame. I wanted preferably black metal in a profile that isn’t to trendy since they do want her to be able to use it for many years. I found this one that I loved!

Other bed frames I loved but didn’t choose: Option 1 , Option 2 , Option 3

The Hard and Soft

Once I found the bed frame I knew next I needed to find a rug. All of the rooms in the house have wood flooring so a rug is a great way for us to add color and create a relaxing feeling. Adding in soft material and textures makes a room more relaxing to people. If you were to walk into a room with only hard angles and flat surfaces it may feel cold to you like a hospital. On the other side though you could end up putting to many textures and curved decor which would make the space feel uncomfortable because our eyes have no lines to guide us and no solid surfaces to rest on. Keeping in mind what the room will look like when everything is together and try to have a balance of hard and soft lines.

Big Items First

Her rug is mainly cream with victorian floral designs that bring in the soft pinks and greens. Its not a show stopping bold rug but it does bring interest and color. The two things she wants most. Next is curtains. Her room has one large window that will be directly in front of you as soon as you walk into the room. I remember being a pre teen and teenager and how much I slept in so black out curtains are a must in here. We will be using Ikea rods since you can layer up to three curtains on a single system. The outer curtain will be the black out dusty pink while the inside rod will have white sheer curtains to let in light while also staying private.

Bring It Together

The rest of the items came together more easily since I had the largest parts of the room decided. I wanted to add an extra place for my niece to sit and do homework or when she had friends over they didn’t all have to sit on her bed and could instead spread out around the room. I was able to find a bean bag with multiple color options so she could decide for herself if she wanted to have a colorful one or a neutral. Next I went looking for a mirror and of course I added one of my art prints that worked perfectly.

The last item we needed was a nightstand. She’s not sure if she wants one or two nightstands so I made the mood board with only one that way if once they move in they can see if another is needed. I went through the same process as the bed frame since her mom wants it to be timeless so she can bring it with her as she gets older. I ended up finding a great traditional style night stand that she can always paint to fit her style. It even comes with a drawer so she can keep her journal and tv remote out of view.

Hope this inspired you if your thinking about redecorating your girls room or even your own. I have tried to link to every product in the mood board that is still available including some alternative items with the same feel but are slightly different. This blog post is only meant for inspiration so take what serves you, whether thats all of one item, for your home. If you would like to see more post like this let me know in the comments below!
