Unique Places to Hang Art

Finding new places to hang art can be so difficult sometimes especially if you’re like me and still renting. It seems like ever new place I just go to my default. Gallery wall behind the couch and one large art piece above the bed. So in an effort to try and find new places for art I’ve made a list of different places you could hang your next art piece. Make every part of your home a place you enjoy being in and a place that feels connected to the rest of your home.

First Impressions

If you have an entryway area making a statement even if its only for you and your cat can make a huge difference. Many people over look their entryway or mud room as just a coat closet and a place to put their muddy shoes but it can be more. Making a focal point using art prints is an easy way to add to the space without adding bulky furniture that takes away square footage. If you have a table you use for your keys and sunglasses think about adding two framed pieces of art, one larger than the other, and layering them. No need to make holes in your wall with this technique. Putting the larger frame leaned against the wall and your smaller framed print in-front to either the left or right can add depth. Using frames that are different but complementary like a warm wood and ornate gold frame can add depth and texture.

Don’t have room for a table? Stacking prints gives interest and can make your walls appear taller. When hanging two pieces of art one on top of the other I use an interior design trick to make sure it looks proportioned to the wall. Treat both pieces as one. The center should be 60 inches from the floor, as long as no furniture is under it. Any size frames work for this. You can go more modern with two frames of the same size or eclectic with one frame a size bigger than the other. Do what feels right for you and your home.

Alone Time

Putting art in a bathroom was one of my ah ha moments after living in my first apartment for months and never being able to put my finger on why my bathroom always felt half done. Create an intentional feeling in your bathroom. For me its a place to relax. Make a room with personality, feeling, and interest. Using portraits, landscapes, and botanical art prints can help you achieve that. Pull colors from a rug, pillow or decor you have around your home and use them to make your bathroom feel like part of the houses style. Looking for warm wood frames and prints with yellows, greens and reds can make a bathroom feel warm and cozy. While black frames and minimalist art with cool colors can give you a modern open feeling.

Clean Slate

The laundry room is probably the last room people decorate yet its the room that statistically you’re in at least once or twice a week. Why not design it into somewhere you enjoy being. Many apartments and newer built homes have the same generic white walls with white wirer shelved laundry rooms. You may have built ins for coats and shoes but that’s probably white as well or grey. Adding art in your laundry room can soften the hard lines of the cabinets and laundry machines and bring warmth. If you have a shelf on top of your machines lean framed art on it or stack frames on the wall. Landscapes and botanicals are great art prints to help soften harsh lines while bringing color into the space. If your laundry room feels cold look for warm wood and gold frames as well as prints with warmer colors.

Come Together

The kitchen and dinning area are places all people spend a lot of time in so make yours a place you enjoy. Vintage portraits and landscapes are my favorite things for kitchens and dinning rooms. Hang them above the stove or leaning on the counter can bring interest and soften the hard lines from the appliances. Get the size frame that works for the space you have. If you’re thinking of over the stove oval frames look amazing and contrast perfectly with the straight lines of the stove and cabinets. Putting art on or above a buffet can make the room feel taller. The rule of thumb is art should be 4-6 inches above furniture.

Make all parts of your house places you enjoy being in. I love crafting a story for each one while also keeping my home cohesive. Styling and making a home you love is a slow process. Take your time and enjoy. If you liked the art prints from the photos used they are part of my new collection you can shop on my website. They are printed on museum quality paper with giclee printing. Sizes range from 5x7 up to 24x36.
